Sourdough Croutons

Sourdough Croutons

Sourdough croutons are very easy to make and with just a handful of ingredients.  For best results with your croutons, use day old, or two day old bread.  Your homemade croutons will store for 1 to 2 weeks in an airtight container or Ziploc bag.  Use your croutons to top salads, soups and more!  You can even blend them up to make sourdough breadcrumbs.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 Loaf of Sourdough Bread - 1 or 2 day old bread works best
  • 1/4 C olive oil
  • seasonings - I like to season mine with Oregano, Parsley, Garlic Powder, Salt, Pepper and Parmesan cheese

METHOD:

  1. Pre-heat your oven to 400F
  2. Slice your bread into small cubes - the smaller the cubes the faster they will dry out.
  3. Add cubes to a bowl and drizzle with the olive oil.  Mix.
  4. Add seasonings in layers, mixing as you go.   I typically start with 1 teaspoon of Oregano, Parsley and Garlic Powder.  Pepper, salt and parmesan cheese are added to taste.
  5. Spread out on a parchment covered baking sheet, bake for 10 minutes.  After the first 10 minutes mix, and  continue baking if they are not fully dried.
